This is part of a much bigger piece, as yet unfinished. The main melodic theme is an old English folk song called "Lovely Joan".
Cottingley is the village where, in 1917, two young girls - Elsie Wright and Frances Griffiths - took pictures of fairies in the woods behind their home. They eventually admitted that four of the five photographs were faked; however, each girl insisted to her dying day that the fifth one was real.
