Time for you review, CloakedSoup. Open wide!

Stuff that's great:
- Clean mix, with a solid palatte of instruments.
- Nice transition from the breakdown at 0:50.

Stuff that can be improved:
- Mix is slightly thin, and can be brought out a bit more with slightly more compression. One thing that helps a lot with acoustic instruments is to initially mix them dry, then use a touch of convolution reverb on the master track to tie it together and give it a consistent background.
- The composition is lackluster. This isn't to say it's bad, it's just... not good. Here's what I mean - the melody is entirely the same rhythm without any syncopation in the first half of the piece, and the second half of the piece is primarily chord changes with single leading notes - again in a very quantized and basic rhythm.

There's actually not much to say about this piece, as it's quite short and fairly basic overall. Mainly, I think the composition could stand to be more complex and interesting, and the mix can be significantly thicker - try listening to some of PeterSatera's music to see the difference (if you can find any now).

8/10

I like the emotion at the beginning and the sense of climax into :18. You threw me off a bit with the slow pace and minimalism of the piece starting at :38, but the heroic vibe starting at 1:10 or so is great. Unfortunately, I don’t think this track is quite structurally complete. It needs to have a bit more of a fleshed-out structure, with some stronger melodic content later on. Also, the percussion at 1:30 is struggling to remain distinct in the mix at around 1:30. Overall, the progression and sound design here are great. A little more effort into the mastering, as well as some more careful pacing, would definitely push this piece into the 9-range. Keep it up, man. ;)

Beautiful. This is quite emotional.

CloakedSoup responds:

Thanks! I've felt like my last two entries (this one included) were a bit subpar for where I'd like them to be; mostly because of personal time constraints. Nevertheless, I'm glad you enjoyed listening!

I hit play.

The velocities of the choir sound a bit choppy in the rise, in the sense that they're not sounding as if they're gradually rising, which makes sound a bit unnatural. This piano is really lovely! Something sounds a little dry in the mix, perhaps it's the strings. Really enjoying this composition so far! This quiet part is really nice. As usual, you display a lovely range of dynamics in your pieces. I think in the climax, there are elements that are getting buried that could shine a bit brighter in the mix. For me, what needs the most love are the percussion and the strings. There's a lot happening here, but each element deserves to be heard and appreciated!

I would have liked this to be a bit longer so that the climax didn't seem a bit premature (lolol) - Either way, some really lovely compositional ideas here! Still think you're marvellously talented.

CloakedSoup responds:
