Happy belated holidays to all! Even if you're listening to this way past December. I'm sure there's a holiday somewhere close to your period in time.

This song was written for Breed as part of the 2015 NGASS, the Newgrounds Audio Secret Santa project. Boy, did this get me stressed. I didn't have much time to work on it during school, got sick and distracted at the beginning of break, and ended up making this in a total of about seven hours at around 5 am for two nights in a row. Hey, what else is break supposed to be for?

I wrote the main melody of the song a while ago at night, inspired by some delirious note-jamming I was eking out from the piano. Once I realized that it had a similar chord progression to Pachelbel's Canon, I had to write a Christmasy song based off of the two. And what better premise than the Secret Santa? Long story short, I got lucky enough to make this for Breed, who asked for basically anything,

Anyways, here you go! Hope you're all enjoying the holiday season (to be more PC than just 'Merry Christmas')!

Ah, I love bass-y trance. :) The trance-ition (see what I did there?) at :28 is cool, but I think those high-pitched, upbeat chords that sound like they're from an 80s workout video needed a little more reverb to fit in with the smooth background. Otherwise, they came across as strangely punchy. They also might be a bit too up-front in the mix. I loved the piano at the breakdown and the melodies around :55, though. You structured this really well, and it's a good length for this kind of piece. I like how the chords fade back in, which leads to the transition at 2:42. The piece cut off at the end, which sort of ruined the mood. :( Always be sure to leave a measure or two at the end, LunacyEcho! Otherwise, though, great work! See you in 2015, my friend. ;D

omg yes

=> 80s workout video =>

Definitely NOT what I was going for. :D I really should've lowered that track's volume.

=> breakdown =>

Glad to see you liked the breakdown! That was probably the iffiest part of the piece for me. (Funny how autocorrect thinks 'Newgrounds' isn't a word but 'iffiest' is.)

=> transition at 2:42 =>

I like those transitions, but I never remember to use them when I try and think 'what's a good transition to use here?' Chances are, that sort of thing will probably work, so I ought to remember it more often.

=> cut off =>

AHHHHH SORRY that's not going to happen again. That NEVER happens to me. This is the last time I will ever cut off a piece early. Gah!

Thanks for the review, and have a great new year! :)

Whaa??? No one is reviewing anything these days (because it's busy times), including me o.O

Your piano in this piece sounds really refreshing and nice, as do the strings. The nod at Pachelbel's Canon is quite obvious both in the intro and outro, but it's still a nice touch.

The melodies, chords, transitions and instruments (+percussion) are really good in this track. Well done on every front, really. It's a great piece, which is why I favorited it ;)
All the small touches too, like that... Arpeggio-ish thingy between 1:51-1:52 are cool too.

Sounds johnfn:y, actually :)

I don't have much to say really. I'm not good at reviewing today XD

Either way, great job ;)

P.S. Now, what could this piece possibly have in common with Greek and Roman mythology

LunacyEcho responds:

=> no one reviewing anything =>

People get lazy as the year progresses, I guess. Then, in January, it all resets with New Year's Resolutions, but December's the time when people have finally broken all the good habits they proposed at the beginning of the year.

=> piano =>

Really? I thought you'd be annoyed by how inhuman in sounded. :P I guess it's harder to tell when the notes are spaced farther apart.

=> every front =>

You sure about that? There are a few melodies here that I feel are a bit weak. I'm pretty proud of the chords, though; I think I'm getting better at composition in that respect.

=> sounds johnfn-y =>

omg wai
my identity
where is it

=> Greek/Roman =>

Well, it doesn't. But Christmas does! I read an interesting thing a while ago that said that the reason we celebrate Christmas on Dec 25 isn't because it was Jesus' birthday (which was never actually mentioned in the Bible). It was the birthday of Mithras, the holy figure of a pre-Christianity mystery religion. I looked up some more mystery religions and found out that some worshipped subjects included Orpheus, Eleusis, and Dionysus as well. much interest indeed

Thanks for reviewing! Happy holidays! :)
