Yeah, I lied about the "very soon" thing. :P

A world music song! I've been working on this one for a while, although most of that was experimenting with different sounds and not actually getting anything done. I guess that's why it took so long. :P

I took lots of inspiration for this song from <a href="http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/480190">this song</a>, since I know next to nothing about this kind of world music and had to start somewhere. It was interesting to listen to it and see what I could try and do with what I had to make a sound similar to that of Morocco. Also, my sounds are worse, so there's that. :D

I tried a different method for making the melody this time, and I quite like it. Normally, I just play random notes on the piano along with the background music and try and find something that sounds good, but I was having a hard time finding a good melody here. So, I tried writing out a rhythm first and then adjusting the notes to my fancy. To my surprise, it actually worked out really well and I came up with a pretty nice main melody for the song (in my opinion, at least :D ).

If there's any genre you'd like to hear next or any style or characteristic you'd like me to try out, feel free to leave a comment below!

PS: They were difficult to find, but there ARE some didgeridoo sounds in here, LSD. Hope you're happy. :)

Cool

A slow sound comming in on this but it has a nice and unique style it plays long and thats nice, this audio track Now dont get me wrong I like what I am hearing here and while there are some nice sounds I was impressed with how this all started, It has a unique vibe about it and you really bring on some cool tune sounds here and some nice and good quality about it too so nice track

~X~

I love the tribal/ethnic theme and the dark mood. That creepy percussion at the beginning really introduced that vibe well, and you really did a great job of making it climactic/structuring it well. The percussion doesn't necessarily sound 100% authentic all the time, especially the melody instruments at 1:25, for some reason. I like how it got all energetic toward the end, though, and the ending in general was well-done. The mixing might need some work, however - the drums get masked by the pads and strings on the climactic parts. Overall, I like it a lot! You're definitely not just one to stick with techno and dubstep, LunacyEcho, and it's much appreciated! ;D

=> intro =>

Yay! You're like the first one who likes the intro. :D

=> melody instruments =>

That's actually an African marimba. I get that it probably doesn't sound really authentic, but you can probably chalk that up to low-ish quality instruments. :P

=> ending was well-done =>

I actually think I have a problem with all of my endings being structured as chorus->final note. At least it works (apparently)!

=> mixing of drums =>

See, the way things work in Garageband is that I put all of my percussion sounds into two tracks for the sake of not slowing my computer down. Any more and it gets really laggy. So, the only way to raise the volume of some drum noises while keeping the others at the same level is basically to stack notes in the piano roll (I think you've used Garageband before, so you should probably have a basic idea of what I mean). I do agree that I could've made the heavy percussive beats louder during the climactic parts, but I guess I got too lazy about having to keep copying and pasting stuff back onto a single track.

Thanks for the review, TheDoor!

Well, the intro didn't impress me too much either. After that though, you overwhelmed me with how well you succeeded with this project! I noticed that the volume is a bit low. Whas this a mistake, or did the piece begin to clip with more volume or something :p?

I'm most impressed by how well you pulled off the dynamics with this track.

The percussion is pretty amazing too o.O And you made this with Garage Band? Wow :)
I understand that a lot of time and effort must have gone into this song. There are many instruments, and a fair deal of automation too (Omfg there's so much going on!!!). The rhythmic aspect of the piece is great, which is good, as you seem to have used rhythm as your base for the melodies as well. I'd say this is probably one of your best tracks, possibly because it's so different from what you usually do :D

I love the mysterious atmosphere that this track portrays. The instruments work so well together, and even if these aren't necessarily among the very best melodies I've heard were they standalone, they fit the piece perfectly :3

I love ethnic instruments.

The different parts and all the transtitions between them ensure that this track does not become boring :)
I disagree with "DjGubkafish" too. I personally think the strings add to the piece XD

I know I often reference these things, but this would actually fit perfectly in some of the old crash games. I don't know if you get why, but I can easily imagine a character venturing into some old egyptian tomb, where mummies, cobras and sarcophaguses reside, while listening to this :D

I actually like everything about this song (a more attention grabbing intro would've been nice). I think you really outdid yourself with this. I'm sure you'll one day reach the top! I don't really have anything to complain about. Even if I had, I'm not sure I would bother to mention it, as I'm sure you've already learned a lot whilst making this track, and ought to be happy with the result :p

And yes, I am happy with the didgeridoo, although the only part where I'm certain I can distinguishably hear it is at the very end :'3 (I'm sure it plays somewhere along with the choir and strings too).

I still can't get over the fact that this was made in Garage Band, because it was, wasn't it? :'O

Aaaaanyhow... It's late at night, and I'm rambling again...
Basically: great job, insta-fav, and I will be eager to hear more in the future!!!!!

Good night :')

LunacyEcho responds:

=> intro =>

During production, I actually quite liked the intro. I thought it added to the mystery of the song, but I guess people don't really like it. :P

=> volume =>

I think Garageband's overall volume is normally a bit lower than other softwares', and I think I went a bit too quiet for this one. Sorry!

=> dynamics =>

The overall dynamics of the song were meant to slowly get louder and louder as the song went on, which is probably another reason why you felt it was so quiet at the beginning. I also think there was this one part where I absolutely failed at dynamics, and that was the transition at 1:44 because everything just jumps in and disappears. Eh. :/

=> percussion in Garageband =>

Garageband sort of has a reputation of being extremely basic. It's my job to challenge that reputation. :)

=> rhythmic aspect =>

I was trying out a lot of new rhythms here. I'm glad to see they worked!

=> not the best melodies standalone, fit the piece perfectly =>

Maybe the reason for that is I wrote the backing strings and tried around five different melodies before settling on this one. :) I told you it was very experimental, didn't I?

=> ethnic instruments =>

They're fun, aren't they?

=> strings add to the piece =>

Honestly, I think the strings are the least world-music-related instrument in here, but I had to add them, since this song was so heavily based off of Step's Morocco.

=> crash games =>

HERE WE GO AGAIN :P

=> ought to be happy with the result =>

If it was me, I'd still have so many nitpicks about the song, but for the sake of progress, I just wanted to upload it and get going on my next song. :P

=> didgeridoo =>

Huh? *checks* OH CRAP I ACCIDENTALLY DELETED THE DIDGERIDOO THAT WAS PLAYING DURING THE INTRO AND THE VERSES SO SORRY SO SORRY

=> Garageband (again) =>

The only thing that wasn't a handcrafted melody/rhythm from legally obtained Garageband instruments was the didgeridoo that I got from a free sounds website. There you go, Garageband is capable of a LOT.

Thanks so much for the review!

Hip-Hop in Iraq.
Yeap. This track cool but intro is not.
I think that xylophone(is it piano?) is unnecessary in begining.

LunacyEcho responds:

:D Perhaps I may have misled you with my tags. The tags weren't supposed to be locations to imagine when listening to this song; it was supposed to be a reference to a few of the countries participating in the Gulf War, or Operation Desert Storm (titular reference).

I'm glad you enjoyed the track! When I wrote the intro, it was kind of a placeholder, since I wrote the chorus first, but I guess I kinda got used to it and it stuck. :/ That happens a LOT.

Thanks for listening!

pretty spooky . I just wish you didn't use strings at 0:40 because i just see it more as ambient track for horror game .

LunacyEcho responds:

Ooh, that's a pretty interesting interpretation. I never saw it that way, but I can see how you might think that. I think I added strings because in my mind, the melody wasn't spooky, it was exotic, and strings were how I felt would be express that. But an ambient horror track does make sense too! Thanks for listening!
