Hey Newgrounds, back again after months not uploading anything. I've not been resting though, and I composed a few songs for Eran Shabi's first but great video game "Chicken Chaser".

These songs are the result of work and sweat, because my "boss" often had a very precise idea in mind, and it'd been sometimes very difficult to reach what he wanted, particularly as I was not familiar with the kind of music he wanted. Anyway it's been an awesome experience, because it's always great to participate to collective works, and also because it made me discover new kinds of music. I'm really happy I could have been involved and participate in this very nice project.
Thanks a lot Eran, for letting me join the creation of your game !

Alright, the last song I made for the game. Level 3, with, as orders : "make it inky !!" ha ha. I'm not sure I succeeded in making the music sound "inky", but that's the explanation of the weird instrument in the beginning. I went a bit over Eran's wishes by making it more epic than happy. Though it remains my favorite of the four songs I made for the video game, maybe because it's one of the closest that I'm used to compose for myself : lots of melodies, trying to make something catchy and diversified. Enjoy !

It was ok but the opening synth is a tad loud in the mix.

MadMath responds:

Mixing's always been my weak spot ! I try to compensate with funny melodies :P

The only issue I have with this song is the EQing. There are a lot of places where things cut out, especially on the low end, whenever the kick hits. It's a bit distracting and makes it sound kind of hollow. There are also a few places where just playing with the volume levels a bit could have solved some problems. Instead of jamming it all into a compressor like I'm prone to doing. I gotta get away from that.

I am not very good at EQing imo, but I hope this helps a little bit.

MadMath responds:

Hey Faun thanks for dropping your mind !
Yeah, I agree I'm definitely not a pro at mixing for sure. You can hear the sound saturate at some moments. Though, I did played on volume levels, pano and equalizers, but I can feel that the space occupation is far away from powerful songs like knife party, or stuff like that !
Thanks for pointing out the issues of the track, but next time don't hesitate to indicate a timecode, because I'm sorry man, I don't find out what you're meaning by "things cut out" ha ha ha :P

That melody at around 1:20 really did it for me, the way that moves is really nice (where it hits the flatter arpeggiated chord in the run at like 1:28 and 1:38). When the bass comes in after the sort of tag sound it is really nice, could be a little "beefier" though imo, but that could just be my headphones not being bass-heavy. Those little intricate notes around 0:43 are beautiful too I would very much like that to be more prominent.

I understand this is a videogame loop and needs to be short and... looping, but there is enough content in this to make a full feature song of 3-5 minutes, which I really hope you choose to do at some point cause you have created some absolutely, incredibly amazing sounds and melodies that you only use for brief moments in the song.

Definitely sounds inky as hell!

MadMath responds:

Thanks benoz for the careful listening.
Sorry for leaving you a bit frustrated about the duration, but not only it was done for a videogame as you said so, but I almost never compose long tracks as I'm afraid I couldn't maintain a coherence on the duration, but don't want to repeat myself too much.

Thanks for the kind words man, I appreciate :)

A complex "Inky" little tune. I like stuff like this because you hear all kinds of melody mixing, and my way of composing is very similar, you should do more like this.

MadMath responds:

Yeah, I'm trying to avoid repetitions as much as possible... Melodies are definitely the things I like the most to create. Thanks man for the nice words, I'll give an ear to your sounds ;)

great track man! Has lots of great interesting elements and that filtered bass is so clear in the mix

MadMath responds:

that is the first time someone appreciate my mix, ha ha. Thanks for the encouraging props, man :)
