This is my entry for the MAC.

This piece really began with me playing around with the idea of a calm Romantic-era style work featuring violins earlier today. I kinda last minute decided to ditch my previous entry progress and start fresh on this... I've been working pretty much all afternoon and JUST finished. The piece is a mix of styles- from a rather lose style to a more organized contemporary score style.

This piece is about my life so far and it's continuation into the future, as today is a key turning point in my life- my 18th birthday. I'll leave the interpretation up to you. ;)

A big BIG thanks to Camoshark for his feedback on the progress of the piece, he was one one who came up with the idea of using bassoon as a key instrument in the beginning. :D

Any classical nuts will notice quite a few nods to various classical pieces in the motifs and chords.

Feel free to give any feedback on the piece or tell me of any interpretations or thoughts it may give you!

My wife and I listened to this together, and both of us thoroughly enjoyed it. Your orchestration is superb, and you balanced drama and restraint skillfully.

Thanks dude! I'm glad you liked it. :)

This song is perfect. I won't pretend I like I'm going to pick on your with constructive criticism fakery. This song doesn't need one.

Well done.

samulis responds:

Haha, nah... I am sure there are plenty of issues with it. Thanks for the support and listening. :)

This is really nice I love it!!!

samulis responds:

Hey, thanks man!

This song is another one of my favorite pieces entered in the MAC. It's well written and the sounds you chose are awesome. The mix is really good. There's not much in this piece that I didn't like. You also get several bonus points for using Finale to compose the song. lol Really good job on this track.

samulis responds:

Hehe, thanks. Still could deal with a good bit of improvement as the other fellas have suggested, but other than that, it's a piece I'm fairly proud of, which is rare, tbh. Glad you like it. :)

Very nice music here, chilling work. The chords are predictable, not so outstanding. The flute arrangement has good potential, but I was hoping for more development on that.

Ending is nicely touched. Brass arrangements are well done. I love your string sets. Good luck in the MAC.

samulis responds:

Thanks for listening, man!

You must have missed the entire beginning part... not often you hear Amin7 -> B Maj progressions in popular music, or else I am really out of touch with what 'predictable' means, although the modern middle part is indeed rather cliche for a reason due to the programmatic nature of the piece. XD

As always, you know me... cut to the chase, bring out the horns already! I simply dislike the concept of repeating a melody more than four times in a piece unless it has a special meaning (leitmotif) or I am writing videogame music... it gets boring to me. This is probably why I am a composer, not a song-writer. I probably should work more on developing and building on melodies, but eh... that's a whole different battle than a tone poem.

Or were you saying that I should have made the flute part more complex?

Anyway, thanks for the constructive critique as always and good luck to you too!
