Ladybird Girl (DEMO)

My first actually audible recording O.O

This is a cover/adaptation of the Pillows' song "Ladybird Girl" (useless trivia: in Japan, this was Ben 10's theme song). Dedicated to the girl who'll never hear this, the girl formerly known as Tater Tot.

I don't have GarageBand or any cool recording equipment. My PC has a built-in microphone, and I used my little sister's under-sized guitar.

I simply recorded all 3 tracks, layered them one at a time (the guitars were recorded live, the vocals I split in to 4 parts) via Windows Media Player and saved as such. Long process, and because of this there's some dead air/static.

Also... my vocals aren't perfect. I can hit the notes, maybe. That, coupled with my my PC's mic, my fear of stretching my vocals, and the dead air... think of this as a demo :)

Still. Honest criticism would be much appreciated. So would sucking up lol.

Lyrics
============
The silhouetted moon is only so cuz you're in your T-shirt
Hey you, it's never too soon to try and be my favorite flirt
The window's ever so cool, the wind is rushing to keep us awake
When your hair blows in the breeze, my heart beats out like it's a quake
In slow motion...

Replayed it all in my head -- the moment I first laid my eyes on you
But now the film's almost dead; I wonder if that's really you?
With eyes as bright as the sky, a face so stunning it's hard not to stare
What were you thinking of, girl? Why were you looking over there?
Your face, I'll never forget...

Is this love? This is love! My heart is a monsoon
If there's not a reason for me to see you soon...
I guess I'll make one up, then.

Feels like I'm watching a dream with so much detail, I can't blink at all
It's less so than it should seem, because you're gone, if I recall
And so I stand here alone, I'm straining my ears to hear just a peep
I wonder when you'll be here? Your footsteps put me back to sleep
Highly doubt that you'll arrive...

Is this love? This is love! I'm not about to cry
It's your fault I'm like this, I scream out loud to the sky:
My heart is breaking down!

I came undone quickly; myself, I'll never win
I was lost in memories; but now I'm waking up to live again!

Is this love? This is love! My heart is a monsoon
Is there not a reason for me to see you soon?
Is this love? This is love! Good times are so bizarre
I really believe so, because this old guitar
Still plays your song in my heart!

Ladybird girl, ladybird girl, ladybird girl...

Bye, girl.

Very amature.

Basic chord progressions and poor recording but you stated that you have no real program what so ever, so I understand that. If you put some investment into a better mic and an actual music program, you could great some nice stuff with this song.

The arrangement is pretty solid and kept me interested throughout the whole song. I would suggest however is a stronger bridge because you it sounds like you only have a verse and a chorus. That's only a suggestion though, it sounds fine as it is if you don't want to change anything.

The guitar playing sounded a bit weak. There were some parts where it seemed you were struggling to play. It sounds like you hesitated sometimes if that makes it any clearer. Your singing is alright. You should get some singing lessons if you want to become better.

Overall, good start. Keep practicing and you'll get there overtime. If you want, I have a program that I could master / EQ your song better. All I'll need is just wav file of each instrument. I also can put in some drums and a bass to add a finishing touch to your songs. You don't have to, but you said you don't really have any good equipment so I could help you out until you get some. Send me a message if you are interested.

I'm interested, if not for this song (my first and funnily enough my best recorded) then with the songs I'mma do for my EP. I'm scared to ask though haha. But here I am, responding to your review. Hope one of us gets to the other soon lol.

Thanks for the review!

Sorry lol

I feel bad for giving you less than a 10 with such an epic streak of 10's but I don't think it's THAT good. Don't get me wrong, you've got a great singing voice, and the guitar riffs are fantastic. The lyrics are good and don't sound cheesy or anything.

All in all I'd say it's a great song, not something I would personally ever listen to again, but you're a good musician so keep up the good work.

NICE 8D

nice song i give u 1o/1o

good

this make me calm

nice work

Sounded pretty good considering your equipment. All accomplished musicians started exactly where you are at some point, or at least I know I did. lol One thing though that threw me off about your guitar playing was when you played F#major instead of minor. Dunno if you did it on purpose but it kinda weirded me out. :P I suggest you keep an eye out for whatever music software you can find because it will really help you in so many different ways to have at least something aiding your creativity. Making stuff without any useful tools can really hold you back. There are all sorts of ways to cut costs but still get a nice sound with music production. Your computer mic gets the job done, but adds a lot of noise, so a good way to fix that is to go to your local Gamestop and buy a usb mic intended for some music game cause it will also work on a regular computer and it's much cheaper than going to a music store and getting any other usb mic. And if you have the money to invest, you could get a usb Snowball mic which still isn't much compared to others but will give you everything you ever need to record good quality live sound. As for softwares, there are various free ones out there if you google it, and that will really help you save some time and frustration. But based on what you pulled off without much to work with, I expect you'd be able to make positively great stuff with better tools. :) Just keep at it.

How much does one cost?

Also, thanks for the review!
