Saber's Theme [Anya]

The theme of Saber, a mystical sword (who is in fact not really a saber) and Anya's steadfast and courageous companion on their quest to stop a great cosmic evil. He is a bit on the stuffy side, but he is loyal and true to the end. However, being a sword, he quickly resorts to violence in most confrontations. Despite all that, he has a heart of gold. Or is it reinforced carbon-steel? Does a sword even have a heart? Aye yi yi!

--If this does not loop properly, I'll be uploading a slightly tweaked version of the track; I'd much prefer it to loop well (being for an imagined game and all!).--

This took several attempts, but I am actually very pleased at how this came out after a bout of filter tweaks and effects... Needless to say, this one short song surprisingly took a good while to get down pat... Hopefully, you'll all enjoy it!

Cool!

Ye I like it, the piano is awesome! The melodies fit very nicely and all the other stuff goes nicely! The snare roll at the start or like the first gets a bit repetitive after a while, you could vary it up or vary up the dynamics! The piano part is by far my favourite! The other instruments sound a bit old school synth style, add some reverb to give them a bit more depth perhaps? Or play with the dynamics? I'm sure you could make them sound nicer! :)

Take the piano part, add some dynamics and make it LONGER!!!! :D

Good stuff! Keep up the good work! :)

EmperorCharlemagne responds:

Yeah, I kinda wish this was longer too, but I didn't have anything left in me for this piece after a minute (don't ya hate when that happens?).

But yeah, thanks for the critiques, I keep on fiddling around with stuff and settings, so hopefully, I'll finally be able to get a good sound one of these days.

Thanks for the review!

so i think that you did a really good job with the arrangement. this really gives off an epic feel. the way it progressed was not predictable at first glance--which is actually a rarity 'round these parts--and the piano lull built some tension.

i just think the production is pretty bland, but it's not really your fault. i just think everything sounds too synthetic. the way the violin never plays sharply, the snare sounds so bland, and the piano doesnt play with dynamics enough to convey the emotion it tries to. it sounds like, yeah, a soundtrack to a playstation 1 song, not a scored production or anything, which, if that's what you were going for, then all the more power to ya.

all of this are things that are remedied with... well... getting better samples, not really with your skill as a producer. so i'm willing to overlook that, because this had great imagination and still got its message across. good job!

EmperorCharlemagne responds:

Yeah, my sample sets (all freeware, lol) pretty much constrict me to "PS1-style music", which is fine for the most part (for the MOST part), but you are right in that I sure as heck could use some good stuff, like EastWest etc. But that costs a considerable amount of dough!

I actually considered using all SNES-style sound samples for this, so I could make it clear its fakeness, in a way, but I'm glad that the melody (for you at least) was able to carry its weight despite the less than stellar samples.

Many thanks for the kind words!
