Tinkerer's Workshop 2

Are you ready for some sci-fi Victorian-era-inspired orchestral music? If you are, then you're in for a treat.

I've been wanting to do this for a very long time because the tinkerer's workshop melody and theme are something I've never been able to get out of my head. I felt like there was so much more I could do with the melodies in the first one, so I decided to make another one.

I wouldn't think of this as a replacement, but more of an expansion. I like the first one still (despite its couple of quirks), and I feel like it hasn't aged too terribly, all things considered. So I wanted to take the melody and try something slightly different with it. A different feel and pace.

Over the past few months, I've grown an incredible fascination with old technology from the Second Industrial Revolution (and aviation for some reason). I also really like the clothing and overall look of that period (I probably wouldn't like the smell xd). Trams and all those old forms of transport are very cool.

This is my first big project of 2024, so that's pretty exciting :). I believe I've started the year off pretty strong. I wonder what I'll do next. As you guys could probably tell by my most recent upload, I've been messing around with more electronic music. I have to say, I don't like making it as much as orchestral music. Maybe it's because I'm more comfortable with instruments than with synths, or maybe it's because I can more easily rely on instrumentation tricks to get the feeling I want in whatever I'm doing. Not sure, but you can expect more orchestral things in the future.

Not going to lie, my ending sections still need a bit of work. Trying to make them big yet nuanced is a bit difficult with my technological handicaps. But I'll play around with them and see what I like. For now, this will do lol.

As usual, I will be fixing any errors or glitches in the audio for the next 2 or 3 days, so if you hear any changes, that's why. If you hear anything wrong, or something that could be changed, let me know and I will look into it. Anyway, if you enjoy this song, please leave a comment :). I have a lot of fun reading the comments you guys leave.

I'm an absolute sucker for music using atypical sounds for beats and though this track is no exception, its not using it as a crutch. This song has a great whimsical tone while also feeling a little forlorn. Great work, looking forward to hearing more from you!

This one was a real rollercoaster (in a good way). As a sequel to the original (one of my favorite works of yours) it does an amazing job at expanding and telling a more coherent story using the motifs. And to me that’s the best part: the melodies and harmonic techniques used here are a step up from the original, probably up to the level of massacre at the carnival. But there are a few stipulations I have regarding some more nitpicky aspects of the piece. A really noticeable issue with what I assume to be the limiter in the last part seems to act sporadically in trying to reduce the gain of the instruments, producing a slightly disorienting effect in my opinion. But this is a super easy fix: just turn down the volume of the last part down to the volume of the first “emotional height” (or at least, that’s what I do; it lets me avoid all the issues with the limiter, of which I have never really been able to get to work for me).
But that’s kind of my only complaint. I love the way the ending is structured, and perhaps its sudden entrance was intentional. 1:28 the tempo changes could be made a little more subtle, as it might’ve taken the roller coaster thing too literally lol, but keep it if it fits what you wanted. Is it weird that this piece reminds me of hearts of iron 4? With the Victorian era thing you mentioned and the fact that the game’s soundtrack is orchestrated similarly. Anyways great job on this one as always.

i don't even know what to say except that it's damn amazing
