I stylized this like a song that would play in the background of a video, you know, those copyright free songs? I wanted to make this one happy. Then I used a couple stuff to kinda make it like something I would want to hear in Geometry Dash, hence the name 25%.

All this time I had been working on a different song, clocking 18 hours in that one alone. But it ended up with me scrapping it. Not too proud of that. But I did make this, and I think this one is my favorite one that I've composed so far.

What I learned:

1. How to add Fruity Dance to ZVideoGameEditor

2. OTT

3. Practiced making pianos play more realistically (playable wise, not mechanics like pedals or sustain)

4. Learned small part of mixing. Apparently you're not supposed to let the master track turn orange.

5. Tried out a suspended chord

6. Cutting out unused frequencies with Fruity Parametric EQ 2

7. Learned how to swing tempo!

Time spent: 6 hr, 54 min

What did I use?

I used:

  • Magical 8 Bit Plugin's 25% (hence the name) and 50% square waves with a bit of attack
  • A bunch of plucks from FL Studio FLEX packs (they're all free)
  • Vital for making a pad, and a "whistle" sound
  • Acoustic Piano from FLEX, added OTT
  • FLEX for a ton of things
  • T-Bird Slap bass from FLEX Essential Basses

The mix is too quiet, volume peaks are not big, so you can increase the volume without adding a limiter. The piano is a bit dry (FL Studio has a great built-in grand piano, you can find it in the instruments folder) and in my opinion 8-bit drums would fit better but still, good job. Just some little tweaks and it would sound perfectly fine.
Upd. Judging by the waveform, you most likely have a limiter, but you turned the volume down too much

Upd2. Yep, the piano I'm talking about is a directwave preset, you can find it in FL studio's browser, just type "grand". About mastering and all this stuff, here's a playlist: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL5353C9EB8A886421&si=XTeN54SgLOj_10Xn
You can find information about fl's stock plugins and some tutorials there

PotangNG responds:

Yeah I realized it's too quiet as soon as I uploaded it to youtube haha. The piano I was trying to make it sound fake so i think it might be passable. But, I'm interested with the grand piano. It's not FL Keys right?

Update: Yeah I do have a limiter but i think it was there by default from FL Studio's default template lol. I still havent figured out how to use it

Update 2: thanks so much for the tip! I'll take a look at mastering and all that stuff!

Honestly is a pretty great song imo but sounds a bit repetitive? I couldn't listen thoroughly cuz I'm on the way to school rn and got no headphones atm.
But based off what I've heard, still pretty good 👍

PotangNG responds:

Yeah, I do frequently go back to the root melody quite a bit. The song's structure is something like A, B, A, C, A, D, E. Thanks for listening!

sounds like moy 7

PotangNG responds:

just looked it up, i see the similarities!

Really nice work, bro. Good luck!

PotangNG responds:

thank you so much! you too!
