Film Scoring Project: Opening Scene of "Ice Age" (2020) scored for orchestra

Music by Soren Stavnicky (b. 2003)

This is my scoring attempt to the opening scene of the first "Ice Age" film, featuring the lovable squirrel Scrat as he attempts to find a place to store his acorn for the winter. As Scrat tries to stomp it into the ground, he inadvertently causes a large crack to form in the ice that sets off a large avalanche, and he must run for his life. I wrote this as my final project for a music theory class, where we were asked to score any scene from a movie/show/game we wanted. I chose this scene for a couple of reasons:

1.) I've always liked this movie from childhood.

2.) There's never any actual dialogue when Scrat is in a scene, so it reminded me a little bit of the Golden age of American animation, where composers like Scott Bradley scored the classic "Tom and Jerry" with no dialogue, all music (of course, my score sounds no way reminiscent of Scott Bradley, but nonetheless it reminded me of that era of writing music to motion picture).

3.) There was never music in this scene from the beginning, so I was intrigued with coming up with all the musical ideas on my own with nothing to compare it to.

Audio is MuseScore 3 MIDI.
