Dreams have always been difficult to remember or even describe. They manifest themselves when you least expect them, and oftentimes only ever show up for 2 minutes. For example, a couple of years ago, I had a dream about an anthropomorphic mammalian, female, young and ready for a prosperous life as a wolfberry salesperson, while the world around her, though surrounded with the odd bland patch every now and then, is bustling with other diverse creatures with varying skin pigmentations. Pigs, skunks, moose with cube-shaped heads and walk on six legs, green bees, etc. Each one of them looking like they just came out of a low budget Flash cartoon from the mid 2000s.
Two years later, I had a similar dream, only this time, they all look half-choppy, half-smelling like a cheap wine brewed no more than 3 years ago.
Normally I shouldn’t have been able to remember such things in great detail after so long, but in a bout of good fortune, I found out that at the time, I had carved out key events and character bios on the back of a pumpkin, which I would only ever look at two times every year whenever I’ve run out of good ideas. Thankfully my tastes are so bad, I’ve managed to stockpile hundreds of them over the course of two weeks, but none were ever so dear to me than the world I had retroactively created on that pumpkin.
