There is no lie in that learning how to use a firearm makes you more prepared for the inevitable future. In a similar way, that's why nations arm themselves with nuclear weapons, even though there's an understanding of their inhumane power. It's very unfortunate that our idea of safety can easily become a game of who looks more intimidating. This happens because one person's sense of immediate security is another's sense of potential prosperity. In the end, our chances of losing someone at random increases. There's already an embarrassing amount of innocent lives that were lost, and I'm pretty confident they weren't trying to look like a threat.
