Holding onto toxic people just for the sake of the history you've had with them, really isn't worth it. It can drain you out, exhaust you, crush you, it's a terrible feeling. Instead, hold on to the people that are worth keeping in your life and that actually care about you. There are also other times where you have to let go of someone not because they're a bad person, but because for whatever reason, what you have with them just isn't healthy. Sometimes we have to let go of people. Sometimes these people turn out to be the opposite of what we thought they were. It sucks. What sucks more though is if you keep them in your life, despite the unhealthiness of it all. That's why sometimes, you just have to let go and move on. It's really hard, but trust me, it isn't impossible. <3
