Lament Of Dissolving Angels

Author Comments

Speed-composed from my main template in two hours, for NGAIC Layer-4 targeting Dark Ambient (with some DSBM influence in it's compositional direction).

================

A group of angels descended from the heavens to appear before humanity. Their mission was to search for any remaining life upon the planet.

As they made their way towards the Earth, they noticed something was terribly wrong. The skies were filled with thick, black smoke, and the once green forests had turned into gray, lifeless wastelands. As they descended, they felt the acidic fumes burning their wings and skin. The air was thick with corrosive pollution, and it was almost impossible for them to breathe. They struggled to move forward, but the harsh conditions of the atmosphere slowly dissolved their ethereal bodies.

The angels couldn't believe what they were experiencing. They had never encountered such an inhospitable environment before. They tried to reach out to the humans, but they were nowhere to be found. The once-bustling cities were now deserted, and the only sounds that could be heard were the howling wind and the pools of bubbling acid.

The angels felt trapped in this man-made horror. They had come to help humanity, but it seemed that they were too late. As the angels slowly dissolved into nothingness, they felt a deep sense of sadness and despair, amongst the agony. They had failed in their mission, and now they were paying the price.

Thanks for the share, LD. Yeah Trois was right, this can be disturbing. There's so much depth in this piece. I hate that instead of listening, I was trying to figure out what scale you were using... It sounded similar to the 'Lord of the Rings' opening theme, but dipped in acid. Don't tell me the correct answer, but it sounds like you were mixing up harmonic minor scales. Maybe one day I'd be able to compose using those :D

LD-W responds:

Telling you anyway since there's abit more going on than at first glance ;) The main pad was recorded live in Half-Whole Diminished, with said pad having two LFO's (one per layer) in a sine-pattern shifting the microtuning up and down by around half a semi-tone to somewhat throw listerners off what it really is haha

Half-Whole Diminished is pretty easy to remember tbh: it's just three different 8-key scales, with all the other 'modes' just being alternative starting points for those three scales. You could probably to learn how to compose & improv in that, in a day at most

Love it! I get a serious sense of twisted fear and the music evoking imagery of undead creatures that aren’t necessarily visible but are nonetheless scary, executed in a serious way. Also getting some serious Twilight Princess and Majora’s Mask vibes, like if Ben drowned and woke up in the twilight realm.

This is all what was going through my mind even before reading the premise in your description.

After reading your premise, It occurred to me just how eerie it was to read during a time when wildfire-induced smoke had just covered my hometown and made it very difficult and unhealthy to breathe for more than a few minutes over a three-day period.

Overall, really good music presentation. It fit really well with the imagery your description presented. Feels creepy as hell and it’s clear you were able to evoke a lot with a little here. :)

LD-W responds:

Thanks!

Yeah I'd love to try and do more stuff like this, moreso on a VG, Film or album scale (albeit with each track having a good amount of time spent on each one instead of the 2-hour speed-comp this was haha). This is the kind of atmosphere I've always loved to do, so it's definitely cool to see others also liking it!

Fantastic soundscape!
Can feel the aftermath, but still being in the eye of the storm, with more problems on the horizon.

I like these kind of voxsynths, when they naturally start detuning, they really create eerie and beautiful reverbs, and are so fun to play with.
The whispering lamenting voices here and there integrate well.
Did you do that "demon" voice? Good job!

LD-W responds:

Yep! My own voice which has been reversed + ran through FreakshowIndustries Dumpster Fire

You belong to that rare breed of musicians who pour a great deal of time and effort into the presentation. You take your time writing a short story, make sure the imagery fits your vision, and all these elements then combine to conjure this haunting, almost demonic portrayal of an otherworldly realm beyond human comprehension. I do believe you are a master of apocalyptic music at hour zero—as the catastrophe unfolds. I think that's what makes your ambiances feel so vivid.

This atmospheric musical experience would feel right at home in a cool horror game!
