Have you tried using furnace tracker or famitracker? They're pretty good for chiptune! (and in the case of furnace, genesis music and more!)

I decided to treat Pixel Day this year as a game jam (but for music lol) and made a short album in one day, following a video game that doesnt exist (tentatively titled Claw machinations, because I have nothing better). I hope the titles tell you all there is to know, because that's about all the lore there is.
