Self-Destructive - Jamuary Day 2

With this one I wanted to try and do something new but I don't really think it worked. I would've made it a bit longer but a lack of motivation killed me today lol. I wrote the lyrics while in a Walmart parking lot just driving around mindlessly and browsing different stores.

I'm glad I tried something different but I'm overall not super satisfied with the results. I can already pick out a few things wrong with this. I know I'll get better with time and practice, and I'm glad I at least made an attempt, but I'm also aware that this song is a mess LOL. Alas, time waits for no man and Jamuary marches forth! See y'all tomorrow.

Fun fact - the whistle I used comes from K.K. Slider. So I could, in theory, clickbait this song as featuring K.K. Slider lol

Funner fact - the vocal sample at the end was me talking to myself after finishing recording a few takes for the lyrics.

This was a nice tune you have made here and made for some good sounds and the vocals and lyrics are pretty catchy with this one was a fun piece and nice music here

~X~

I really love that melody, I think the vocal needs some mixing, keep going!

MasterHand4444 responds:

Thanks! One day when I have more time and technical ability I definitely want to revisit this song.

Not bad!! It definitely grows on you. The juxtaposition of the upbeat, energetic melody and the pessimistic lyrics is really interesting to me. I love how they both build to a hectic climax, it plays really well to this idea of being under lots of pressure under such a short amount of time. I think the mix could use a little work though, your vocals are fine for what you're trying to do, but they kind of overpower the beat instead of playing to the natural energy of the song. Put another way, it sounds less like the two are seamlessly integrated and more like the vocal track is just sitting on top of the beat. It's a tricky thing to work out a good balance of the two but I think it would be a great addition to what you've demonstrated here.

MasterHand4444 responds:

Really good advice about the vocals just "sitting" on the track; I didn't even think about it that way! I also kinda gave up on the mix in favor of just spitting the track out, which in hindsight I do regret lol. Thank you for the constructive criticism!
