Victory of a Soldier

I listened to a story from a friend of mine. He's in the military and has dealt with some horrific things. I won't share the story, but it did make me think a lot about what he's gone through, and continues to go through.

I made this piece with him in my thoughts.

** A NGAIC REVIEW **

o/ :)

COMPLIMENTS:

Ah, what an elegant, thoughtful piece for your friend! It is very beautiful, and something that would belong in a movie like Fury or Saving Private Ryan. I'm not big into marching / militaristic arrangements, but I've done one or two and listened to some of the old standards in band class long time ago--and over the years. You definitely honor their standards, pace, rhythm, and the overall emotion that carry with these types of songs. As usual, pretty brilliant from you, Ace. :)

CRITIQUE:

There's really not much to critique here. The horns sound perfect, and your string pads are spot on--to me. If I had something that kinda rattled me a bit as a listener, I was expecting some form of chimes, or bells, when the choir came in @ 0:50, and perhaps some play of those or the snares coming in earlier (say, 1:05) would've meet my expectations and built up the 'hype'--for lack of a better term--a bit better. It really doesn't need much more than that or light splotches of a tad more percussion. But...that's just my two cents....

Otherwise, very, very nice, and I enjoyed the entire arrangement. :D

Good luck with the remaining Layers. I look forward to hearing more from you over the course of them. :3

Thank you for listening, and the review! Stay tuned, I still have to write some.

Has some serious Danny Elfman energy emanating from it. I'm probably not the best to criticize your piece, on account of me being an absolute sucker for this genre of music. This has a great balance of deep, dark brasses and high-end melody, like something from the old Batman movies. Keep up the good work!!

You nailed the feeling of a heroic background song.
Feels like I'm watching a movie.

omg when the horns entering on the start, goosebumps♄ would say the end of the first part missing some "meat" and weight from the mixing, because the composition really banging it heavy!

the bridge is breathtaking!!!
last part is tottaly awesome and whole some!!! the string resolves perfectly!!
i would just want to hear the drums with also more weight, but it might close the air feeling it gives soo i dunno

amazing work my dude!

AceMantra responds:

Thank you for the review! I am glad you enjoyed it.
Looking back on the piece, I can see what you mean about adding some more weight. I'll likely experiment with this in future compositions.

Really nice, reflective piece. Love those big chords. Your track definitely has a storytelling quality that makes me want to revisit it at various points in my life and look back; see where I am right now, gain perspective, take it all in. Well done.

AceMantra responds:

Thanks for listening! Always happy to see you!
