Lyrics:
We take
We take
We take
We take
And we barely give anything back
We’ve bent the rules
We’re getting the bigger profit
We bring death everywhere we go
We scam the ones who help us
We turn our backs on everyone else, and then ourselves
We destroy our friends
We take it all for granted
Everyone’s fed up
But no one has a solution
Can you smell the fumes in the air?
Can you hear the gunshots and cries?
Calm down, take deep breaths
But the air makes you choke
Choke on the thought of ourselves
Some of our mistakes are coming back to haunt us now
A possible extinction
And we leave it to the next generation
We haven’t even all stood together
For around 10,000 years!
If you looked at our home today
You’d see darkness and pollution
The before and after doesn’t look that good
When it comes to our intervention
10,000,000 factories
Strewn across our home
Each one playing a vital role
In destroying what we were given
The foul, filthy, frightful, freaky, ferocious gears turning
Pistons permanently pushing pulling pressing down
Rusty ancient ugly mechanisms operating fueled by our tyranny
The ocean can’t escape us either
One person’s trash isn’t always another’s treasure
8,000,000 pieces of plastic on a daily basis
Killing over 1,000,000 creatures over year
The numbers are stacking up against us
Just look at them
10% of the ocean is plastic now
269,000 tons of plastic per square mile in the ocean
1,000,000 species endangered because of us
43,000,000,000 tons of CO2 every year
A whale’s diet now includes plastic
We put it on their menus
The earth is eating our greenhouse gases
We’ve changed another menu
Choking in the fumes
You are blinded
You can only smell the fumes
Guide yourself with hearing
Away from the sounds of avid poachers
And then you run into something
You finally try opening your eyes
And you see darkness
Look at us and you’d see that were just
Selfish and mean little people
The factories polluting
The hunters killing
The builders destroying
The criminals stealing
All over our home
Everyday
And we don’t even stop to think about everything else
Imagine if all our mistakes came back to haunt us
We already started digging our grave
And we’re almost done
But that’s just a few mistakes out of the millions we’ve made
We really do bring death everywhere we go
It’s nearly too late
But still
We don’t care that much
We’re a little worried
But we have no solutions
We’ve only just started to pay for our mistakes
What have we done?
What have we done?
What have we done?
The light at the end of the tunnel is fading
It’s nearly gone out
If you are listening or reading this
Help the earth
Because that light isn’t gone yet
We can still reach out
Venture through the tunnel
No matter how hard it might be
But if you hesitate on your decision
Even for a moment
It could mean certain doom
We’ve been on earth for less than 1% of its time,
But we’ve caused over 99% of the problems.
