So I had this idea, right.
A shepard's tone keeps on rising or going down for basically forever, right?
So, that's a constantly rising intensity.
Therefore, a track with infinite momentum.
So, I thought, why couldn't you use a chord and a melody, keep it rising forever, and then make it into a shepard's tone by layering it across multiple octaves?
I figured it'd be more fun with drums and a bass line, so I added that in too.
I made sure the bass line ends before the repeat of the rising motif, so you can't tell it drops back down, which is also why I didn't make a second portion of the track using the bass line throughout its entirity.
All in all, this is a proof of concept more than anything.
I'm sure a lot more can be done with the idea, not even going into what it'd be like if it kept going down forever instead.
I hope it'll at least be a very interesting case study.
Edit: Redid the mix.
More punch, less ear-hurty, it turns out EQing hurtful frequencies does not make a shepard's tone work any less.
