(OTG) Cycle Of The Urban Sun

I released this song on YouTube. I thought I'd share it with you guys on NG.

OTG = "Off The Grid"; I drew all the notes and MIDI data in my software without using the grid snap feature. For more information on this concept, check out my video here.

In my case, like with nearly all my other songs, I didn't use any physical instruments, meaning no physical MIDI controllers, keyboards, knobs or faders; no live instruments I recorded. I only drew notes with virtual instruments using the PC keyboard and mouse.

I tried to create a song that fit the vibe of the piece. I attempted to incorporate elements of an urban environment that wasn't overcrowded, like a warehouse that's out of the way of the main tourist area of a city, while also creating a sense of motion, like something was happening within the picture that's literally more than meets the eye.

The image below is what what inspired me to write this piece. If I'm not mistaken, I took it between 2019 and pre-pandemic 2020:

I create YouTube videos where I screencap myself during the time I write music and speed up the footage. You can find a video like that for this song here:

It's certainly a unique and non-typical piece of music, which is nice. I like the idea of capturing the vibe through an image. I guess, an image says a thousand words.

I found it to have a rather confusing structure, but my guess is that you didn't want a solid structure, so that you get more uniquity, and to fit in all the elements we see in the photo. That's a very interesting way to see it.

I guess music like this doesn't often appear onto Newgrounds, adding to it's uniquity. I am feeling a 7,7/10 for this, with the number rounded up to 4/5 stars. Nice job.

The way you described the making of this piece is very interesting, and it's definitely not something a lot of people do. Looking at the picture helps me visualize the mood you got while writing this piece, which is pretty rare :)

The actual track, what can I say it's very very progressive which is awesome! So much different pitch shifts, pitch bends even, and the whole song is almost like telling a short story or sequence of events. The instruments varied throughout creating a very beautiful mixed up piece. I just generally really enjoyed this, and I hope you make more :D

Codefreq responds:

Thank you very much! I plan on it. :D
