January 18 is the birthday of Bex, a comic artist who writes about mental health and neurodiversity. I discovered her on Tapas through her Lavender Clouds comic last year, so I redrew the cover to celebrate. Bex talking about her Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) at a point in my life where I was considering the possibility that I myself am autistic was a major contributing factor toward my decision to subscribe to Lavender Clouds. Later that year, I found out Bex was organizing and writing SENSORY: Life on the Spectrum, a comic anthology made by autistic comic artists. I donated to the Kickstarter so I could get a physical copy of the book and learn more about autism. Reading it made me consider self-diagnosis as an option on my journey of self-discovery, and at this point, I like to consider myself a self-diagnosed autistic person. I would still like to pursue an official diagnosis and hope to have one by the end of the year. Regardless, I want to personally thank Bex for helping me understand myself. I wish her a Happy Birthday and a great 2022.
