My art is a way to get my thoughts out.
Logistically speaking, I like to draw in an anime-inspired style for a few reasons. I like to draw in grayscale with a mechanical pencil and blending sticks, and as a result I like to focus more on the specifics of shading and differentiating depth with that as opposed to color, but I also love the hard lines that come with a comic-book style.
That said, this is actually a drawing of a woman inspired by my wife. I drew her in almost a defeated pose, dressed in pajamas or underwear and sitting on the floor, to symbolize our combined stress dealing with the fallout of the pandemic and political turmoil in our world, feeling that our dreams of travel and freedom may never let us truly escape the modern phenomenon of globalized suffering.
Her sexualized attire and features, while resembling my wife's natural body, are accentuated by the fact that the lazy clothing and hair are what is valued today despite it being an indicator of our inner sorrows.
