“How did he do it?”

With that sentence starts a very interesting book by Doris Schattschneider on M.C. Escher’s regular division of the plane. It was the initial question the author asked herself looking at Escher’s works. Now, I have asked myself the same question on the same subject some while ago (that’s why I know the book and found it fascinating) - but also on other subjects of drawing throughout my life. Perhaps most prominently so on the drawings by Spencer Wan: How did he do it? The movement, the action, the beauty? And therefore once again (it started around 2014) I have tried to find out. Focused this time on a question asked by someone on Youtube about Spencer Wan's sketchbook: “How do you draw fabric like that?”
