Velvet's Summary:

Velvet’s true origins are just as mysterious as her looks. She is very cryptic about her past and her trauma. Only the V-Family knows the true story. Velvet’s whole biological family was torn from her by a sudden midnight raid. Velvet’s parents were taken from her, but the assailants kept her alive and kidnapped her to their underground base. Velvet had become the new test subject to horrific experiments and with everyone she knew was gone and there was no one out there looking for her.

Velvet’s actual semblance was obscured forever. Being injected with unknown formulas, being fed dubious foods, and being reused for surgical procedures had altered her thanks to side effects and reactions. Velvet remembers hearing something about the sinners testing a bioweapon, but what for? She couldn’t identify. It wasn’t until the scientists attempted methods of primeval alchemy that something changed Velvet.

Strength came back to Velvet and her ailments vanished. Her body, however, rivaled the chaotic nature of hell, itself. Velvet’s colors made her stick out like a sore thumb, yet she had more control of her limbs and her mind than she ever had before. Whatever reached out to save her had given her a bizarre gift, the power to laugh at the laws of physics and to scoff at the laws of logic. Velvet could shift her limbs into almost anything she pleased, and if she concentrated hard enough, she could shift small parts of reality.

However, one notion that rang in Velvet’s head louder than the rest was that she needed to get out of there. She was aware that with this new gift that her foes would surely try to control her again. Velvet escaped the hidden hell hole with ease and never looked back. Unsettled by her new looks, she preferred to hide away in the alleyways and sewage systems of Pentagram City. Whoever the mysterious attackers were, they were searching for their runaway test subject. Velvet would constantly move from place to place, trying to hide from her nightmare of ever going back.

The more she fled, the more other sinners started to notice her existence. Citizens began to fear Velvet and dubbed her “The Candy Cane”. Authorities were called and some tried to confront Velvet themselves, but she managed to slip away from all of them. It wasn’t until Vox traced Velvet’s moving patterns that he set out to confront her. Velvet couldn’t run away from Vox giving chase. Vox could jump from electrical current to current, so wherever she warped, Vox was still close behind.

By circumstance, Velvet ended up in Vox’s domain, where she finally gave in to confront her pursuer and his gang. She deluded them with cruel tricks and harmful pranks until Vox remained. However, Valentino came up from behind her and immobilized her with his red smoke. When Velvet came to her, she saw that her injuries had been mended by Valentino. Grateful for the kind hospitality, she opened up about what happened to her, to the V-Family.

Vox instantly thought that Alastair could be behind the act, while Valentino promised Velvet shelter and protection under their roof. Velvet lived with the three members of the V-Family. She and Victoria hit it off so well that Velvet trusts Victoria like she was her big sister. After a while, the V-Family were happy to adopt Velvet into their family. Since then, Velvet has been devoted to protecting her new family, especially Victoria. She knows those terrible sinners are still out there looking for her, but this time she will be ready for them.

Velvet’s trauma isn’t as bad as it used to be after she was adopted, but she still comes across as a tad unhinged. She is prone to spontaneous giggles, whimpering, and triggered outbursts when she is reminded of her past. In addition, she is smug, mischievous, bratty, and short-tempered. Despite her anger and irrationality, Velvet is somewhat trusting, showing that she is still an innocent and naive child. Most of the time, she is sweet, timid, cute, and actually enjoys the company of others. She practices to control her anger, yet it can’t be helped if she feels that she is being provoked or being reminded of her trauma.

Vickie's Summary:

Victoria used to belong to a rich and conceited family. Her family was hellbent on prolonging their traditions and their occupation. Their occupation was professional acting. However, Victoria never saw herself as an actress, and instead, wanted to follow in the footsteps of her beloved Uncle Valentino. Victoria always had a deeper connection with her uncle than anyone else in her family.

Uncle Valentino played instruments and loved to sing with her. Victoria was inspired to play the acoustic and sing just like her uncle. Unfortunately, her family disowned him for marrying another man and becoming a pimp. Victoria’s father was the most stubborn because he was envious of Valentino’s new title as an Overseer. Victoria’s father cut almost all contact between her and her uncle. Although, no one would tell Victoria why until she was “older”.

However, Victoria’s family wasn’t so innocent either. They lied and cheated their way to stardom. Her family was guilty of backstabbing their friends, scamming their followership, stealing from other businesses, and committing sabotage. They had gotten away with it for so long because they were famous, they were wealthy, and they had won the loyalty of their fans and peers. Valentino had warned them that their path would lead to their own downfall, but he wasn’t taken seriously.

Surely enough, Victoria’s family had met their fate. They had deceived the wrong business partner and paid for it. However, Victoria had never heard of this organization that her father did business with before. Their home was raided in the middle of the night. Family members were either shot and killed or whisked away to never be seen again. When the authorities arrived it was already too late. The family’s home had been reduced to rubble; a grave marker for a family of frauds.

Valentino dug through the ruins in vain, denying that he had lost his family. Vox tried to pull him back, but they noticed slight sounds coming from underneath a fallen wall. Vox and Valentino both lifted the wall up to find a small and shivering Victoria, the only one spared from the raid and the crumbling house. Valentino embraced young Victoria for hours while Vox demanded for an investigation to be made of the crime scene. Both the authorities and Vox’s crew came up with nothing.

The fear of the unknown killer made Vox hell-bent on protecting his husband and his niece, and later, his adopted daughter, Velvet. If Valentino wasn’t stern enough about both Victoria and Velvet being safe, then Vox was even sterner about it. He would especially warn them both about an outcast Overseer named Alastair, who he fears might be behind the unforeseen attacks. However, Victoria, who now prefers to be called “Vickie”, can’t stand to be locked up again. She understands her uncles’ concerns, but she wants to be trusted to do things on her own.

Vickie is young and rebellious yet, just like her Uncle Valentino, she is pragmatic, prudent, and vigilant. Being raised in a rich and conceited family, Vickie has picked up some traits of being arrogant, assertive, rude, and she can sometimes be hot-headed. However, it’s her way of standing up for and defending herself. Vickie can be a loyal and kind friend, but she does have her limits with patience and trust. She is well-acquainted with Uncle Vox’s gang members and some of Uncle Valentino’s workers, and she both loves and messes around with Velvet like she’s her little sister. But Vickie’s only best friend outside of the V-Family home is Charlie.

Even though she still has slight doubts that it might work, Vickie goes against her uncles’ wishes and volunteers to help Charlie with her project to shelter and reintegrate Hell’s broken society through practiced restoration and rehabilitation. She provides security and management of the old hotel building Charlie had purchased to set up shop. Vickie is half hoping that by starting this business, not only can she save other Sinners from suffering something similar to her family’s fate. But also to seek out and get revenge upon the mysterious raiders.

Author's Note:

For anyone who has made it this far, THANK YOU. This was definitely some TL;DR but I appreciate anyone out there that's read through all of this and enjoyed it. So, yup! Velvet became a small, mutant, eldritch child who Valentino and Vox adopted. Vaggie was renamed Victoria/Vickie, Valentino's her uncle, and she's now a member of the V-Family.

I replaced the Overlord idea with "Overseer". Overseers are sinners hand-picked by Lucifer to administer the lower sinners in Hell. They aren't tasked with torturing sinners, but they make sure none of them slip away. Lucifer rewards their deeds with the allowance of jurisdiction, luxury, and strength.

You might have noticed that Charlie and Vickie are just friends in this version. To clarify, this is not to spite a ship or LGBTQ+. I couldn't see the chemistry working between the two, and when I was writing Vickie for THIS AU, it sparked the idea for her to be paired with somebody else to help drive the story. Although, Vickie would still be the caring and supportive friend that Charlie needs.

Oh yeah, that AU thing. These two backstories were actually part of a bigger project that I canned about a year ago. It was because I wanted to work more on my original projects, but I guess it doesn't hurt to share what I had planned for this one. Besides, revisiting this little AU is helping me better piece together my own story.
