Davis the Dragon [Memorial Tribute]

Share

Not my usual run-of-the-mill horror & creepy monster stuff, but this one is a more personal work with a special meaning.

So, just let me talk.

I got the news one of my favorite teachers I've ever had in my life just passed on recently. He was the epitome of a prankster and a shining example of someone who had an endearing sense of humor. He made chemistry and math fun, where those subjects were a bit complicated to me sometimes. I think my favorite memory of him was when he took our class outside "because he was bored" and we got to [safely] toss mild explosives into the reservoir pond. He used the experience to teach us about how certain chemicals reacted with water- he wasn't just some irresponsible guy. He knew what he was doing and we trusted him (as did the rest of the school's staff). I also really liked the time I caught a salamander and gave it to him with the idea for a 'class pet' but we ended up letting it go back in the wild.

He also pinned signs to the backs of other teachers, and one time even got the superintendent [Guy never knew he had a sign on his back until he got to his car lol] He also took our class out to Red Lobster when we were close to graduating as his treat. That was how some of my classmates learned the hard way how lobster was cooked.

He also gave me a book about philosophy that I love to this day.

Anyway, when I graduated, I drew him as a dragon as thanks for all he had done for me - being an overall good guy and teacher. I always saw him as a Copper Dragon from D&D- it fits him perfectly. I figured this was going to be as decent of a way to pay my respects to him as ever now that he's passed on. I find it kind of crazy, yet appropriate the man died on April 1st- he was a jokester until the very end. Even more crazy it's the year of the dragon now- just seems a bit cosmic.

I've decided to make him into an 'NPC OC' (background OC) in my world as further tribute as you see above. I imagine him mixing volatile chemicals on top of a cliff in the open air, flapping around his anchored equipment and cauldron making his next potion (explosions are ALWAYS ready on request). His cauldron has equations and symbols etched all around it, with the debris of past experiments dried and caked on the sides.

RIP Mr. Davis - His students and fellow friends were amongst his greatest treasures.

(Also, the paper appearing as 'yellow' was intentional)
