Now back to the present- my most recent piece, and officially the first one this 2024! The initial sketch for this piece actually started last year January but never got around to working on it until now, but really happy that it's finished!

Puss in Boots the Last Wish was an amazing film, great writing, great visuals, great music- I absolutely adore the film I had to make a piece for it too!

This got really experimental for me as I continue to develop this style, I'm loving it but I still need to optimize it especially on my layer management (the overall file is like 500MB 💀). There's another piece that also touched on this rendering style finished last December with a mix of collage elements, but that'll be coming late February or early March so keep a lookout for that! ;)

I wanted to capture Puss' story and the overall film in a nutshell through the composition without spoiling the film. Puss falling down is about his downfall- 'not living up to the legend', and his desperateness to regain that title as he reaches out for his sword. The other characters are also chasing after the map to the magical wishing star, all the while all of them- including Puss, are within Death's scythe to capture Death's importance in the film and his overarching presence shows how finding the life worth living never needed a magical power, or a magical intervention, but rather to live in the moment and appreciate the life, and only seeking for more leads us to danger and destruction.

Really love how the piece turned out despite the several roadblocks encountered along the way :)
