Part of my ongoing renpy project to make a visual novel / dating sim with volcanoes.

All volcanoes featured in the game are active or potentially active, with a handful of exceptions.

Quick introduction:

Makiling is a relatively short stratovolcano in the Laguna Volcanic Field. She hasn't erupted in the past 10,000 years with an uncertain eruption about 2,000 years ago, but it can be inferred from her ash and tuff deposits that she was pretty violent when she was actively erupting. She has a cheerful and helpful personality and will guide the player through most of the stages. She gets along with everyone.

Bulusan is a rather massive lava dome complex, with the active vent erupting every so often, the last being a steam explosion in the dead of the night in 2022. She is built on top of the Irosin Caldera, a massive 12 x 13 km hole in the ground that went off in a single massive explosion some 40,000 years ago, quite possibly designating her as a super volcano. She has a hard-working and easy-going attitude, and will help moderate the other characters who do not get along with each other. She does not get along with rude and impolite characters.

Kanlaon is a tall stratovolcano located in the island of Negros in Visayas, where it is the highest point on the island. She is very active and last erupted in 2017, with a streak of unpredictability as she killed hikers on her slopes in 1997 with absolutely no warning. It is best to approach her with caution, but she is generally friendly and very chatty. She gets along with everyone, but keeps a certain distance from others.

Mayon is another tall stratovolcano with the world's most symmetrical cone, no doubt helped by the fact that she is the single most active volcano in the country, having erupted 60 times since the 17th century, and is actually erupting at this exact moment. She is typically aloof, cold, and distant, but will warm up to the player significantly as the game progresses, showing her motherly and caring side. It is best to be polite to her, and she will gradually open up to the player. She does not get along with Taal.

Pinatubo is a stratovolcano with two settings: nap time and "destroy everything with reckless abandon". She only erupts in a very explosive manner, often obliterating everything she can reach, then proceeds to sleep for hundreds of years before exploding again in a terrifying manner. When she last exploded in 1991, she sent as much as 14 cubic kilometers of ash into the stratosphere and a whopping 20 million tons of volcanic gases: it was the second largest eruption in the 20th century, and it also lowered global temperatures by as much as 1 degree Celsius. In-game, she is friendly and easy to approach, and one of the first volcanoes that will consider the player as a friend. She does this because everyone else is afraid of her.

Taal is a small - the world's smallest - volcano nestled in the middle of an absolutely massive 20 km x 30 km caldera filled with a lake that's almost 200 meters deep. Don't let her diminutive size fool you: she is very deadly, extremely unpredictable, and absolutely insane. Not to mention she has ignimbrite deposits as far as 60 km to the north in the capital city: she is very, very powerful, like super volcano powerful. She last erupted in June of this year, with a single big eruption in 2020 right before the start of the lockdowns that deposited foul-smelling ash in the capital city. In-game, she is unpredictable, with none of the responses to her queries having a guarantee of safety. She is also very driven by "base desires" and whimsical, often erupting and destroying anything as she pleases; nevertheless she is one of the more protective and caring characters with a richer back story.
