A Ref Drawing

Share

This is titled 'Ref' as in a Reference-based drawing.

Sorry for being a bit behind with posting drawings. However, I've figured out some things that I think will have a major impact on my drawings. I am already really astounded with this one.

  1. Smooth watercolor shading. I figured out that I needed to do the cel-shading first, then brush over the edges with one of my watercolor brushes. With my other drawing I used the watercolor brush on its own, and I didn't like the results.
  2. Instant color alterations. This is a tip that FireAlpaca artists really need to consider: 1 bit and 8 bit layers are awesome, because you can use them to basically set up color regions (ex. skin color, eyes, hair) and instantly change their color by double-clicking on that layer. I experimented with multiple color schemes until I found one that I really liked. I never would have been able to do that without the magic of these layers.
  3. Reference Atlases. I created some cheat sheets for things such as color palettes, styles from other artists, my own made-up styles, poses, and hairstyles. They are highly helpful in helping me figure out what I want for my drawing.
  4. Texture Overlaying. It just has a cool look to it. For best results, Set blend mode to Luminosity/Value, and convert the layer to an 8-Bit layer. This will allow you to make it any color you desire. If it isn't bright enough, then change the 8-bit layer color to gray.

Also, get ready for lots of Halloween-themed drawings this October. I'll also pertain to a range of color palettes.
