This is a recurring character in my works. They’ll be in almost all of my RPGs, though, Ironically, not in the Default Asset Adventure. His name is Respek, named after the action “Respec”, which is the redistribution of stats or abilities for a character in an RPG. She allows the player to do as such, as well as allow the player to recustomize any customizable aspects on their character.
I didn’t know it at the time, but when I designed the character with ability to change the sex of themself and others at will with magic all those years ago, that was my own subconscious trying to tell me I was trans.
Game Design Note: If you’re making an RPG that involves distributing stats, the ability to respec your character is a necessity. I’ve played several games where there’s respecing isn’t an option, and we have a term for this; it’s called “Bad Game Design.” (Maybe that’s a little harsh, but come on!) - Similarly, if you allow your player to customize their character, they’ll be eternally greatful if you allow them some sort of option to re-do it without starting a new game as, frequently, the initial character customization menu isn’t actually enough for players such as myself to tell if we got it right. - This character fills both of those roles.
