Character Description
Umarie Lapidarious is a hybrid between a bunny and a nurse shark. She’s in her early 20s, with pink eyes and white hair. Her skin is like a shark’s, made of tough, fibrous tissue that can feel like thin sandpaper when rubbed the wrong way. While this may make her unpleasant to touch for some, her skin is quite tough and durable, giving plenty of resistance for the more aggressive gropers and those who like to get more hands and rough with their partners. She is blind in one eye due to an accident when she was a kid, but has since grown used to it. She can compensate for her lack of depth perception partially with her electrosensory organs, but she is still unable to drive or play most sports or games very well.

Personality
Mari is very kind and a bit shy, though not enough to avoid social situations. Rather, she just is a very common and easy target for teasing among friends. She blushes a lot, even just thinking about things, ears often drooping when she’s embarrassed by a thought. She’s not quick to anger, often backing down from confrontation or trying to find a nice way to settle things without an argument, but she is quick to defend her friends or even try to place herself in the shoes of the other side, even if she doesn’t like them. This can lead to almost compulsive dismissal of problems, and leads to her getting taken advantage of by people at times.

Likes: Lending an ear to people, surfing, poetry, long quiet walks, glitchpop music, trashy romance novels, sci-fi comics, being teased/playfully bullied, puzzle and adventure games.
Dislikes: Loud places, pushy people, arrogance in any form, gritty movies, first person games (struggles due to missing an eye), lemons (smell, taste, and texture of the skin), cold weather, especially ice

Background/History
Her friend used to get into fights a lot when she was younger, and it was the first time she stood up for herself when they almost stopped being friends. She refused to keep hanging out with her if she was going to be so mean to other people or pick fights. She’s a bit of a pacifist, even trying to enforce that on others when she can. When she was about 10 years old, she slipped on ice and gouged her eye partially on a frozen tree branch. While not totally blind, her left eye is virtually unusable for anything but reading books, and even that is a strain with smaller fonts so she tends to keep her eye path over it. She needs dark cloth because the tissue of the iris was damaged and her pupil no longer can retract or dilate, so even ambient light can give her migraines. Despite this accident, she still took up surfing the next summer, as if in defiance. She briefly went to college for literature and writing, but dropped out two years in due to simply not enjoying herself and feeling like she wasn’t learning anything.
