I don't generally do fanart, but something I wish to do in my spare time is create my own redesigns of established characters as a means of nurturing my own developing skills and creatively adapt characters into new styles.

Adapting NITW is deceptively challenging because of its super minimalist approach to sprites and animation means that the audience can fill in the gaps and come up with any number of adaptations, and as a piece of media, it's nowhere near as sacred as something like The Peanuts, so it's not so weird to draw them whatever way you want to.

The problem is I still wish to her to be recognizably based on her original, and that's hard to do when you want to give it a Disney esque level of detail that you know is already past your reach... such as the case of myself. I didn't even bother to draw any more than a bust because I just don't have any ideas yet of what to do.

I tried to keep the tuff of hair, her ear notch, and her eyes relatively the same shape. The big difference so far was to give her scruffy fur. I like this look in general, but here it's fitting; I imagine Mae being very ungroomed, giving her the instant look of someone who doesn't necessarily take good care of themselves.
