I can only imagine how these three recurring characters on SpongeBob SquarePants would feel about the current status of the show. (If cartoon characters could actually think and feel for themselves). After their voice actors/actress passed away or retired these beloved characters were reduced to non speaking cameos and offscreen references. Since these characters aren’t being recasted the show has become really boring. In my honest opinion I think these characters being reduced to non speaking cameos is a fate far worse than a character being killed off. Here we have Mermaid Man, Grandma SquarePants, and Barnacle Boy going on strike because they feel like their characters have become pointless. If they are still going to be part of the show AT LEAST give them new voice actors just so they can have an actual purpose on the show! (For instance I think Squidward’s voice actor, Rodger Bumpass, could easily voice Barnacle Boy!) Since they can no longer talk, they have to express their feelings in literal “Sign Language” rather than words. Talk about wasted character potential. On the good side of all three characters the original voice actress for Grandma SquarePants is fortunately still alive and well last time I checked. She is now retired and is 98 years old.

(Do you think Modern SpongeBob SquarePants is boring too? As someone who has been around since day one I would definitely say “Yes”. I still like it but I don’t watch it nearly as much as I used to.)
