Another one-shot from my catalog!

For some context, this is a follow-up to another one-shot of mine, EMINENCE (it's too long to post on NG). And while both one-shots are spinoffs of EXHAUST it's not necessary to read that to understand them.

I wanted to try my hand at a western for this one, while also dipping into some horror elements and practicing short-story structure. I like how it turned out, especially the night-time panels, which took a while to grow on me as far as the coloring. Only thing I don't really care for is the lettering, but I've gotten better at that since this comic.

This is Amazing right there from Art style to story this is epic

And just love how the art look very similar to Hellboy and MFKZ which are one of my fav comic series. And you nailed it

Also artist to artist you got any tips for making a good comic? Cause I been working on a project about the Backrooms lately and I feel my story is very lazy and Idk how to feel about it mate.

SkyHawkins responds:

Tysm! Mignola is one of my top inspirations so it's always nice to hear a omparison to him lol. I also liked the MFKZ movie, haven't read the comic yet tho.

It's hard to get into specifics of what makes for a good story since that's subjective. For me, an important aspect of making comics is pacing and structure. I try to break each comic I make down into smaller pieces that are their own "stories" in a way, whether that's chapters or acts or something else. There are a lot of ways to go about that, but for this comic, I split it into three acts; one to establish the characters and make them sympathetic, one to explain their situation and motivations, and the third to be a tense payoff of that buildup.

I also try to do the same thing on a page level. Each page starts with a new piece of information, and ends with either a question or mystery of some kind that makes the reader wnat to keep going. The idea is to take advantage of every page you have to give them something new to chew on at a regular rhythm. But on the other hand you don't want to overwhelm the reader with too much info at once.

Hope that makes some sense and you get something out of it!

This was a great short story! NEVER stop making art as long as you can do so. You're great at it!

Amazing artwork ! the contrast between the inks and saturated colors make it really pop.

Incredible work my friend. You a fan of Mike Mignola?

SkyHawkins responds:

Ha ha yeah, he's up in my top 3 favorite artists. I wear my inspirations on my sleeve lol

Needed more New Mexico rep besides the usual Breaking Bad, this'll certainly do. <3
