For those who keep asking if a panel is missing: he went to the graveyard and tried putting it on a bunch of graves, but nothing happened, and he thought the teapot didn't work. On his way home, he tripped and dropped the pot, causing it to land on a random patch of dirt... and the teapot reacted.
Someone's buried down there. They were wicked in life. And with an unmarked grave in the middle of the woods, they probably didn't die the kind of peaceful, quiet death that would let their soul rest at its destination...
