Cool as hell! I'd never seen before a devil drawn in this kind of religious wear. There's none of the overblown juxtaposition of fiery brimstone red fur and gaudy gold jewelry you might get from other art of religious coded demons. Don't get me wrong, I love cheesy, exaggerated art, but this sustains a far more uncanny effect.

It genuinely feels like a stately, heavily religious painting from the middle ages. His robes and sad look make him transfixing, telling so much about him while he remains a mystery. Is he a kindly priest or a brainwashed cultist? All I know is he's devout.

Thanks for the review. I really love your take on this piece. I definitely wanted some kind religious ambiguity to how this painting is percieved. I really wanted to show some kind of religious(or not) devotion which you pointed out, through the face and emotions.

It was in a sense inspired by the music of a Black Metal band by the name of Batushka whose theme and imagery is heavily based on Eastern Orthodox Christianity.

The band really captures the feel and cult like imagery of Orthodox Christianity, almost satanic in a way.

I wanted to capture the spirit of that while I was drawing this.
