LORE:

Black Elves are a mysterious and hidden culture of elves that live in dark, hidden places around the world where the sun never touches. They were once high elves that were driven to rebellion by the unbearably joyless, bureaucratic, and tradition-obsessed society of their former kin.

Their new society was intended to be one of expression, passion, and freedom, but they have since succumb to their lawful elven nature and have turned into a dark, sadistic mirror-reflection of their high-elven kin.
Ridged laws, open slavery, tedious tradition, and strict hierarchy have melded with heathen occult rites, barbaric warmongering, and perverse pleasure-seeking to create a truly wicked culture; a fitting realm of disciples to the Dark God. They are the only realm in all the world that openly and unashamedly worships him. They are rarely seen by other races, save for those on the receiving end of their violent raids.

Black elf society is one of strict social classes, each with their own culture and identity. The military class is infamous for its incredible violence and cruelty. Forbidden to have lovers, children, or family of any kind until they've served for 100 years, their lives are focused on the arts of death and terror. They use ambushes, evil magic, and lightning fast hit-and-runs to ensure they never have to fight fairly against their opponents. Their deranged attire and grizzly treatment of prisoners further spreads fear among their enemies.

Not every black elf is evil by nature, but because the soldiers are the only ones outsiders ever see, they have cemented their races' reputation as such.
