WOW!
How did you get that metal-tone?
UUh I got the same problem with my backgrounds xD

With the metal tone, all I did is made a completely flat white layer under the blacks, and from there I used a textured brush, I think it was a brush I use for skin texturing.
AND from there I turned down the Flow and opacity to 15% or so. I just keep going over and over it until I get that nice midtone. To finish it all I do is erase it with the exact same brush with the exact same flow and opacity.
For minor details, like scratches and whatnot, I just erase it with the exact same brush only its just smaller.
Its really a matter of Erasing and 1 brush, 1 and 1 only.
Interesting piece this one! It took me 10-20 seconds to figure out what it was, and now that I see it I really like it and kind of like that its so unique I didn't understand it at first. I see it as a kind of rayman/madness like character design, the no-arm kind of character, and the proportions and way its painted are really clever and stylistic. Great work, keep it up!
Thanks! I did play Rayman Origins to death (As in 100% Completion), so that may have unconsciously weaved itself in as you said.
