Emo Mona Mourns

Share

"I can't cry, not yet; this power is fueled by my pain, I can't waste it on tears. Instead, I'll let my hatred burn, until these tears turn to vapor, and that metallic demon turns to scrap!"

In February of last year, Mark Haynes, aka Alvin Earthworm, aka the creator of popular Sprite Animation series Super Mario Bros Z, Tweeted about a rejected idea from a Co-Writer of the original series. it was indeed a dumb idea, but as someone who 100% completed the game Shadow The Hedgehog as a child, I was inspired by it, and depicted the "angry emo dark form" of Mona he mentioned. This was my first Art to reach 100+ Likes, as well as pushing me over 100 Followers, said artwork is below. (Not to brag, but my improvement in just over a year repeatedly astonishes me.)

With WarioWare: Get It Together being announced at E3, and SMBZ Reboot Episode 2 reaching 1 million Views on Youtube a few days ago, I once again wanted to draw what's come to be known as "Emona." Mark deliberated on her appearance a bit in the comments of his Tweet, saying had he actually done it, she would have had black hair and pure white skin, but the use of purple and addition of spikes was inspired by the edgy "Turbo" forms from Cartoon Network's "OK KO: Let's Be Heroes". Carrying on from that inspiration; Emona would be a shortening of Empowered Mona, much like KO becomes Turbo KO, TKO for short.
