A few fun facts I found when researching for Dumbo:
1.) The movie Dumbo was based on the story Dumbo the Flying Elephant by Helen Aberson-Mayer and Harold Pearl (illustrated by Helen Durney) in February 14th, 1939.
2.) The copyright to the story was originally owned by Roll-A-Book Publishers before being sold to Walt Disney in late 1939.
3.) Disney made a number changes in the movie. For example: Instead of the crows, Dumbo gets help from a robin and an owl in the book.
If you want to read the original story, here is a link to a re-release by Disney from January 1st, 1941; roughly 9-10 nine months before the release of the film.
