Clay COL-LAB

Share

For those of you who don't know him, COL-LAB is the last boss in M-Bot: The Game, which you ccan play right here at Newgrounds.com. Along with the 6 bots, I said there were going to be 2 secret guest characters that will go along with them, COL-LAB is one of those surprise characters.
The following paragraph is me explaining where I got the clay from and my usual technique of recycling, so if you don't want to read it you might as well skip it.

You are probably thinking "where did you get the money for all of that clay?". As most of you don't know, I often recycle clay. For example if I remake a figure, I reuse some access clay from the last one I made and use any other leftover pieces of the same colors I could find. I have shoe boxes and tupperware filled with old clay even back when I was a kid, so I hardly never run out. The brand does not matter to me. This is where COL-LAB's body comes in. years ago I combined a whole bunch of old and stained clay that I had to make a huge purple-ish blob, I used that clay to make the members of the Fighting Porygon Team from the original Smash Bros. And the were all lost in those containers of clay in random places. So just for this moment I recycled all of that clay again, but added more purple to make the main body for COL-LAB, which coincidently was nearly the same color and the exact same quantity that I could use. Since they were all messed up anyway I might as well make something different, and at the time it was Robot Day so why not?

Those of you back with us, this is the largest character in the gallery so far, with the mask adding 7 1/2 inches, he might be a bit bigger when compared to everyone else but he fits in scale with M-Bot fine. (I make my models in proportion with each other, like an action figure line.) One major problem is that his arms keep breaking apart, which gets annoying. I also made his back bigger to fit in all of the letters. I also think I could have made his arms thicker and less long, considering how wide his arm span looks. There isn't much detail on him to begin with so it was hard trying (with the best of my knowledge) to make him look at least presentable.

One thing I have to get out of the way is why he lacks muscles, since I know that I'm going to get that question eventually. The simplest way to put it is that I just can NOT do muscles, whether modeling, drawing, etc. It's just one of those few things I can not do... As I learned modeling by myself overtime, I wasn't taught any kind of advanced/realistic anatomy. So if you are expecting Dad or any other musclebound character, I don't think it will come out as realistic as you would want it to. I can learn how to, but for now it is COMPLETELY out of my ability. Besides, realistic is't my cup of tea. I would prefer cartoony, cute, or even scary over realistic, perfect human models anyday. ;)
