Day 2 of the Maysozoic Challenge started by Jack Burke. Todays prompt was Birgeria, a primitive, scaleless, ray-finned fish, and one of the Triassic oceans many apex predators. Hell, before this prompt list, I'd never heard of this fish before, but that's something I actually quite like about lists like these, you're guaranteed to come across an animal you've never heard of, which makes for interesting research. As for the piece itself, I didn't really have an idea for how to make this interesting, so per the suggestion of one of my friends, I decided to give it some unusual colours, using some variations of red and some bright blue on the back of the fish and edges of the fins.
Often used as a food source by more coastal settlements, these large, 2 meter fish are not to be underestimated. Their smooth streamlined bodies make them very swift swimmers, hard to catch, and paired with their strong jaws, fierce predators. Though they mostly prey on smaller fish and other life in their environment, injury has been known to come to careless fishermen who try to catch them, so care should always be taken when dealing with Birgeria. However as many have come to know, the ocean always hides something bigger.
