Maysozoic Day 19: Atlanticopristis

Share

Day 19 brings another species I'd never heard of before, Atlanticopristis, points for guessing where it comes from. Let me tell you somethin, this fish was not easy to research. Anytime I looked it up, google just gave me stuff about Onchopristis, and while I'm sure it was a very similar animal, it's not what I was looking for. I couldn't even find out how big it was, so I kinda just had to go off of Onchopristis. In terms of looks though, it's pretty much just a scaled up Sawfish. Not really a huge amount to say about it really. The colours were based on one of my favourite monsters from Monster Hunter Frontier, Anorupatisu, who is based on Sawfish, and one of the coolest looking monsters in the game, especially that Zenith version.

These giant sawfish are very important, as they are a keystone species in the coastal lagoons and river deltas of the region. They are predators, that hunt small fish and crustaceans, keeping their numbers in check around their ecosystem. As well as that, they are used as food by many creatures, including humans. Piscivorous dinosaurs and fishing mammals will often eat these large fish, and humans who catch them often use their titular saw for weaponry, as it's surprisingly durable, and lethal when swung right. The people of the coast rightly respect them, and do what they can to help hold the balance that these fish unknowingly maintain.
