part one: I began by drawing a simple blue-lit scene to get the tone
part two: I drew a lonely bed with a man in it, adjusted coloring to greener style.

I was in the hospital when the competition was announced and thought long and hard of whether or not I wanted to draw myself. I decided to save my idea for another piece, but I commend your bravery and I wish you well.
As someone with chronic illness I can totally relate to this. Nothing seems to be more isolating than fighting for your life while the whole world keeps going on around you as if nothing is happening.
