This is my entry to Jazza's COTM - Lord Of The Hogwarts.

Mid-Development: http://www.newgrounds.com/art/view/obsidiane/wip-entry-to-the-jazza-cotm

The picture shows Hermoine Granger (HP) and Éomer, son of Éomund (LotR). While trying to clean the laceration on his face from old blood and dirt, he catches her hand and thus interrupts her.

When I searched for a motive in the theme LOTH I was quite lost in the beginning - how do you bring two franchises together, that seem to differ so much? Yet I realised the reason why I love both, is that they created awesome new worlds and characters you can't help but admire and care for.
I chose Hermoine and Éomer because of the similarities between both characters - and because they are amongst my favourites. In their respective trilogy, they may not be the protagonist, yet they are loyal until the end, fierce and brave warriors who overcome difficult obstracles and fight for their life and their loved ones.

Not to mention the fact, that Karl Urban and Emma Watson did an outstanding job bringing these characters to life!

The inspiration to this piece came to me, when I was thinking about how Hermoine would do, when being somehow thrown into Middle Earth. I can imagine her joining the healers in Edoras, curing wounds and brewing desinfectants and healing potions. I can totally see Hermoine and Éomer bonding over time due to their rather serious personalities and respective experiences with war and genocide.
My drawing has a rather serious tone, yet trust, friendship or even romance played a role for me while working on this.

I used coloured pencils and pencils on white paper, A3 format.
I do not know, how many hours I worked on this ... I stopped counting at 30+ tough. And I spent about one week finding the subject.
I am really happy with the outcome and thoroughly challenged myself with this piece.

Any commentary and criticism is appreciated.

Good luck to fellow competitors!

This captures moments when a warrior is on his final breath, he gazes at her beautiful face. The hushing of her finger and his silence lets him know. emos

Thank you! These are all elements I hoped one would notice upon seeing this piece.
