Roadside Picnic is a Russian science fiction novel written in 1972. It forms the loose basis for Andrei Tarkovsky's 1979 masterpiece, Stalker and the game series of the same name.

After extraterrestrials land on earth and subsequently leave, their craft leaves highly irradiated and destroyed areas called "Zones" littered with remnants of their technology. There's a black market for these parts, and "Stalkers" risk their lives for the monetary gain and notoriety.
