This art piece is for a concept I had regarding an urban fantasy series where magic is real and in the modern world, but can only be activated by tattooing your body with magical ink. How strong your conjured magic is upon the tattoo's activation depends on a few factors, like its size, its design, and the grade of magic ink used (on a scale from 0 being normal ink to 9 being experimental, top-secret ink). Better grade ink means you can get the same strength of magic in a tiny wrist tattoo as a huge full-body tattoo for lower grade ink.

Why tattoos? Well, tattoos are stuck to the body. So magic only works by running through a human's body in a specific sort of "circuit" drawn via tattoos. Tattoos also fade over time, so your magic ages and gets weaker alongside your body. And any tattoo you get means you're losing space for potentially smaller, more efficient tattoos later, you lose "canvas" space.

Plus, you limit yourself from many jobs by having tattoos (model, corporate, etc..). So unless you're rich enough to have laser removal whenever you want, you're stuck with whatever magic you get as a one-trick pony. Each tattoo only has one spell you can conjure from it.

So I figured that'd be a fun and original sort of setting for people to create OCs for. A grungy alternative to Cyberpunk or Shadowrun-like settings.
