Just out of curiosity, what's your current palette? I've been using the same old primaries plus titanium white and burnt umber, except when I tried out the Zorn palette a few times. Zorn was definitely fun to work with.
Oil on canvas, 50 x 60 cm. Alla prima, painted over the course of about 2.5 hours.
Had fun with this one, needed a break from a big portrait commission I'm working on. This one flowed nicely and I wasn't too stressed about getting a likeness. I think I need to change my palette up again, feels like my colour choices are getting a bit samey. This one was interesting though because the reference photo was in black and white, so it was a bit of challenge trying to invent colour for this one.

Ah nice, I really like the Zorn palette too. At the moment I'm using Naples yellow, Indian red, Pale rose blush, Titanium white, Lamp black, Burnt sienna and sometimes Pthalo blue. It's an interesting palette, quite low chroma which gives an interesting effect. I've also switched to using charcoal pencils for my underdrawings so I think a good amount of charcoal is getting mixed in with the paint which kind of greys it down.
I'd be keen to hear if you've got any other palette recommendations.
