Linework

This is an original character I worked on for the Jojo's Bizarre Adventure fangame, 7th Stand User 2.

Her name is Jun Hogo, she's one of the first and only high-ranking police inspectors at the start of the game's story. She has a stand named Canned Heat, whose power is it can deflect any attacks with its big shield.

The design for this character was completed many years ago and was originally co-designed with me and another person. One trait that I always wanted for the character is she is almost Chun-Li-like in build. I've always loved the look of Chun-Li and her muscular thighs, as well as how "leggy" the character is. Another inspiration not quite as present since creation was Kaori from City Hunter. She provided the initial basis for "tough girl with a weapon", as well as Tsukasa Hojo's love of the female figure.

This piece was a lot of fun to work on, and it really represents to me some artistic evolution. I had to really chameleon myself for the coloring process, as well as the detailing, representing a specific era of Hirohiko Araki's art style. The really fun part was using the hatching to introduce depth because I'd never really noticed before this how much it adds to the Part 4 era artwork of Jojo.

The coloring was a challenge, however, and really worried me that it wouldn't come out looking right. I've never been great at coloring my own artwork, so this was a really tricky part for me. I began with an underlayer of light pink, then used a light blue paint gouache brush to begin working in the "shadows" of the image. There are more colors of course, but the basic idea was to use pink to unify the color of the image and then keep generally in a Saturation and Luminosity range. I also had to constantly adjust the brushes to give them more strength, like when painting the whites of the eyes.

Overall, I hope to continue making more art like this with her, and eventually with other cast members of the game! Thank you for reading!
