Growing up, my grandpa had a vegetable garden in the middle of a very dense, urban community. You could walk in it and it grew string beans, tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, and possibly other vegetables. His property was quite old, a multi family home built in 1906, before the high density apartments that slowly began to surround him. I always looked forward to sometimes helping pick the string beans.
